Paper End Machine

PEM series of machines is designed to meet the need for environmentally cost effective composite cans without expensive components. Cardboard is used in the construction with paper/poly laminates, when required, to give a moisture barrier. Rapid tooling change is an important feature to reduce down-time between jobs.

Method of operation

Can bodies are fed from a labeller/cutter onto a conveyor above and behind the PEM One tube at a time is ejected from the conveyor to the first station where one end is curled outwards and the other end flanged (flared outwards). The tube is transferred to the next station where a cardboard disc is punched, inserted and *heat sealed into the flanged end. The last station is where the end is curled (beaded) inwards to the disc. The finished can is then ejected from the machine.

* Note 1: instead of heat seal can simple insert and glue disc and for curl & disc containers one or both ends

Controls

A touch screen, mounted on the front face of the machine, governs all the actions of the machine except for the heat of the disc inserter.
For example, station 2 can be selected and the various functions of disc advance, when in the cycle the disc is inserted, etc changed whilst the machine is running.
At station 1, for example the curl depth and the clamp duration can be changed whilst the machine is running. Because this is all digitally controlled and no timers are involved the speed of the machine can be changed without affecting these parameters.
